Signs Your Air Conditioner Needs Repair
Common signs are a system that runs but does not cool the house, warm air from the vents, weak airflow, a system that turns on and off repeatedly, water around the indoor unit, unusual noises, and a higher electric bill with no change in how you use the system.
Before you call, set the thermostat to cool and make sure it is set below the room temperature, and check that the air filter is not clogged. If neither fixes it, turn the system off and call. Running a system that is freezing up or leaking can make the damage worse.
Repair or Replace?
A repair makes sense when the problem is limited and the rest of the system is in good shape. Replacement is worth discussing when a system is more than about 12 to 15 years old, has needed repeated repairs, or no longer keeps the house comfortable.
